MEMORABLE MOMENTS…

THE BRIENZ ROTHORN RAILWAY EXPERIENCE

In Brienz, deep in the heart of the Bernese Alps, the Brienz Rothorn Railway steams its way up the Brienzer Rothorn Mountain just as it did when it opened back in 1892. The railway is unique; it is a steam rack railway using 3 generations of steam locomotives and wagons, with daily service during the summer season.

FROM LAKE TO MOUNTAIN TOP

The railway commences at the Lake in Brienz, 566 m above sea level. In one hour the train steams 7.6 km up the Brienzer Rothorn Alp to the summit station at 2244 m, a climb of 1678 m.  The railway passes romantically through the gardens of Brienz houses, lowland forests and alpine meadows up to the open barren rock faces of the upper mountain reaches. The rewarding 360° panorama presents Brienz, its’ lake and Interlaken, all in a majestic backdrop of snow-capped Swiss Alps. A perfect excursion, perfectly Swiss.
